Electric Cars , Wind Turbines and Solar Panels will NOT do away with the need for OIL and GAS!

THOUSANDS of products are made from Fossil Fuels and Derivatives!

Good Morning…errr, ummm, well maybe not so “good”.

As the Left clamors to do away with Oil and Gas, as well as other fossil fuels like coal, they are loudly screaming from the rooftops that doing so will solve all of our so-called Climate Issues, and create a Green Utopia where flowers bloom year round and pixies dance in the streets.

Their creed is that if only we would just agree on installing Wind Turbines and Solar Farms on every inch of open land, roofs, and subsequently rely solely on renewable energy, the Earth could be saved. A new, Golden Age would magically emerge. Peace and Harmony would envelope the Earth and provide for all our needs.

Of course, the problems with their “solutions” include the fact that the wind doesn’t always blow, and the Sun doesn’t always shine (at least as far as I’ve been able to discern!)

The Left hates Nuclear Energy, and despises Hydro Dams that feed off of lakes and rivers. Technology to use oceanic tides and waves to produce energy are simply not efficient; subject to severe salt corrosion, and grossly expensive.

Then there are the known and provenlethal consequences of their preferred power production solutions:
Wind Farms cause MILLIONS of bird deaths each year, including killing more Bald Eagles annually than any other source. The turbines and blades are loud and cause health issues for people who live in proximity to those farms…sleep deprivation, headaches, and other health problems that have been directly related to the Wind Turbines.
Solar Farms have their own issues with wildlife…killing many species. In 2016, a first-of-its-kind study estimated that the hundreds of utility-scale solar farms around the US may kill nearly 140,000 birds annually, and we have more than quadrupled the number of Solar Farms since then. Desert Tortoises have been killed in the thousands in areas where these farms exist. Additionally, living next to a solar farm could be harmful to your health. Solar power plants give out electromagnetic radiation which may reduce life expectancy! This radiation doesn't come from the panels themselves, but rather from the industrial equipment used to store the energy the panels produce.

The next major issue is the idea that electric cars will be the end-all for saving the planet…except no one has explained how the massive amount of electrical power to regularly charge these millions and millions of vehicles will be produced. Wind? Solar? Keep dreaming!

The crazies probably think that electric jet engines can be produced that would have enough “juice” to power them for transcontinental flights. HAH! Oh… and I suppose we’ll go back to large sailing ships to move millions of containers and goods across the oceans. Not likely!

4.4% of every barrel of oil is used to make Jet Fuel. Think about that! And just to be clear, we simply do not have the capacity to be able to grow and process enough plant material to produce all the Bio-Diesel fuel that would be necessary to power those ships and planes, although as a supplemental fuel, Bio-Diesel COULD reduce a percentage of the amount of fossil fuels necessary for their operation…especially ships…but we would still be left with emissions from burning that fuel. The Left won’t like that.

Finally, there is the elephant in the room….PLASTIC! ALL plastic is made from petroleum. ALL OF IT! So, how does the Left imagine doing away with the billions of products and parts made from Plastic? Plastic is everywhere! Just sit back for a second and think about your house…. How many plastic storage containers to you have in your kitchen; plastic items in your closets, garage, garbage containers, dinnerware, office, bathrooms, and so much more! I’d bet the greenies have just as much plastic in their own homes, but you never hear them call attention to it, other than the gross amount of plastic in waste dumps and oceans…something that IS a real issue…but one that proper recycling can address.

I suppose we could deforest the earth and use the wood to make products that previously were made from plastic.

And/or we could vastly increase strip mining for aluminum and iron ore to replace our need for plastic by making things of metal instead.

It’s almost too bad that oxygen isn’t portioned, because climate alarmist idiots like John Kerry, Saint Greta, and Joe Biden have seriously used more than their quota!
Remember that here in 2022, according to them, the Artic Ice should no longer exists; the seas should have risen and flooded all coastal cities; global warming should already have caused the destruction of all farmland; and people should have died by the tens of millions due to the climate changes. Hogwash…or as Sleepy Joe likes to say…”Malarky”!

Just because you have the “rights” to a drilling lease, does NOT mean there is recoverable oil underneath the surface of that lease!

There are viable options to reduce the amount of oil and gas needed in our country, primarily clean coal and nuclear plants…which ARE safe. The problem with current nuclear energy technology is the storage or disposal of waste nuclear fuel…BUT there is a solution on the horizon if the dollars are put into much more robust research and development. It is the use of Thorium as fuel in Molten Salt Reactors. This technology could be as transforming as the light bulb was many years ago.

That being said, regardless of various technological advancements for energy, we will STILL, ALWAYS need fossil fuels for various purposes…including heat, fuel, products, and medicines.

Molten Salt Reactors using Thorium as fuel

One especially cool possibility suitable for the slow-neutron breeding capability of the Th-U (Thorium) fuel cycle is the molten salt reactor (MSR), or as one particular MSR is commonly known, the Liquid Fluoride Thorium Reactors (LFTR). In these, fuel is not cast into pellets, but is rather dissolved in a vat of liquid salt. The chain reaction heats the salt, which naturally convects through a heat exchanger to bring the heat out to a turbine and make electricity. Online chemical processing removes fission product neutron poisons and allows online refueling (eliminating the need to shut down for fuel management, etc.). None of these reactors operate today, but Oak Ridge had a test reactor of this type in the 1960s called the Molten Salt Reactor Experiment [wikipedia] (MSRE). The MSRE successfully proved that the concept has merit and can be operated for extended amounts of time. It competed with the liquid metal cooled fast breeder reactors (LMFBRs) for federal funding and lost out. Alvin Weinberg discusses the history of this project in much detail in his autobiography, The First Nuclear Era [amazon.com], and there is more info available all over the internet. These reactors could be extremely safe, proliferation resistant, resource efficient, environmentally superior (to traditional nukes, as well as to fossil fuel obviously), and maybe even cheap. Exotic, but successfully tested. There are already like 4 startups working on them, and China is developing them as well).
